Helping Indian Government Ports achieve 99.9% Assurance of Zero Downtime in Outdoor Connectivity with Nirad N100-O 4G LTE Router in partnership with a Leading Systems Integrator

Objective/Goal:

The primary objective of this case study is to demonstrate how a large system integrator successfully achieved 99.9% assurance of zero downtime in outdoor connectivity for a critical data transmission application. The project aimed to connect RFID readers to Nirad devices, enabling the seamless and continuous push of data to a central server. The key requirement was to establish a stable connection (uptime) for two RFID readers, ensuring uninterrupted data transmission even in challenging outdoor environments.

Challenges/Requirements:

Stable Connectivity: The system integrator faced the challenge of establishing and maintaining a stable and robust connection between the RFID readers and the 4G routers. Any connection interruptions or downtime could lead to data loss and disrupt critical processes.

Outdoor Environment: The deployment of the RFID readers and 4G routers was in an outdoor environment exposed to various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, humidity, and potential physical hazards. The solution needed to withstand these environmental challenges to ensure continuous operation.

Data Security: As the data transmitted by the RFID readers held sensitive information, maintaining a high level of data security was paramount to protect against unauthorized access or potential data breaches.

Technology Used:

To meet the project’s requirements and address the challenges effectively, the system integrator selected the Nirad N100-O Outdoor 4G LTE Router. This advanced networking device offered the following key features:
  • Robust Outdoor Design: The Nirad N100-O was specifically designed for outdoor applications, featuring rugged enclosures and an IP66 waterproof case that could withstand harsh weather conditions, dust, and moisture, ensuring reliable operation in challenging outdoor environments.
  • High-Speed Connectivity: With 4G LTE capabilities and high gain omni-directional cellular antennas, the router provided high-speed data transmission, ensuring efficient and timely data delivery from the RFID readers to the central server.
  • Built-in PoE (Power over Ethernet): The inclusion of Power over Ethernet (PoE) support simplified the installation process, allowing power and data to be transmitted over a single Ethernet cable, reducing cable clutter and providing flexibility in device placement.
  •  NIRAD Cloud Management Compatibility: The Nirad N100-O router is compatible with the NIRAD cloud management software out of the box. This feature facilitated easy remote management, monitoring, and configuration of the devices, streamlining maintenance and providing real-time insights into the network performance.

The deployment of the Nirad N100-O Outdoor 4G LTE Router by the system integrator resulted in the following outcomes:

  • 99.9% Uptime: The robust and reliable connectivity provided by the Nirad routers, led to a significant improvement in uptime. This ensured that the RFID readers could continuously push data to the central server without interruptions, meeting the project’s uptime objectives.

  • 100% security: The SD-WAN integration ensured that the data transmitted was 100% secure and was hacker proof.

  • Live Dashboards: The compatibility with NIRAD cloud management software allowed administrators to view live dashboards and efficiently monitor and manage the devices remotely. Furthermore, the software enabled administrators to generate comprehensive reports, enhancing insights into network performance and aiding in strategic decision-making.
